The night of nights in the hairdressing industry was finally upon us. We all glammed up and made our way to the Exhibition Centre.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the annual Hairdressing Awards at Hair Expo are the most respected, established and longest running awards in the Australian hair industry.
Hosted by a charismatic Daniel MacPherson, we enjoyed a spectacular show by Schwarzkopf Professional before the award announcements commenced.
In an unprecedented industry achievement, Shane Henning of Sydney’s Noddys on King salon took the major accolade. Having previously won the title in 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003, this latest victory makes it the fifth time he has taken the Australian Hairdresser of the Year honour.
Shane is widely regarded as a driving force in the Australian hairdressing industry and in 2008 was inducted into the Hair Expo Hall of Fame. He also won for Best Photographic Collection – judged purely on the creativity and artistic talent portrayed in his photographic collection, against every submission received during the judging period.
Marie Cain, Ashley Wuillemin and Taryn Thompson all received Judges Recognitions for their beautiful collections. For a list of all the winners from the awards, check out:

It was now time to let our hair down and enjoy the after parties that come with the Hair Expo Awards. We made our way to Kings Cross for Brad Ngata’s after party which turned out to be a highlight of the weekend! Connie from Sneaky Sound System turned it on for the crowd with her amazing solo show. While the very cool Pip Edwards worked her magic on the decks! Lot’s of drinking, dancing and good times followed until we finally crashed at our hotel!
GREAT NIGHT! GREAT WEEKEND!

Jayne Wild gave us some new and exciting tips for GHD. Marie Cain chatted to the media about her inspirations behind her collection and presented INOA for L’Oreal Professionnel on the Spotlight Stage. What a great day….Now to party at the Hair Expo Awards Night!

Our very excited team hit the town for some relaxing, bonding but more importantly some good food and good drinks! We ventured to two of Sydney’s most beautiful bars, The Winery in Surry Hills and The Ivy in the City. The night turned into the morning, there were a few sore heads but what a night it was! A memorable evening!

Another fantastic day at Hair Expo. Our apprentices Taryn Thompson and Ashley Wuillemin had the tall order of talking to the media and public about the inspirations behind their collections. Which they did with great aplomb. We were inspired by Suki Hairdressing. The uber cool Brad Ngata showed the public his version Of the late Alexander Mcqueen’s “Holagraphic Alien Beauty”. Then our very own Marie Cain presented INOA up close for L’Oreal Professionnel.
